Write on Hubpages or Wordpress, which is better?, my experience with both.

Updated on April 9, 2013

Before you begin writing on Hubpages, Wordpress or anywhere else, you have to really wonder why you're doing it in the first place. If you enjoy writing, you will do well no matter what platform you choose to write on. Good, interesting, original content articles will thrive.

I started writing on Hubpages because I found it to be quite easy to use. It seemed like a nice quick way for me to share my thoughts, ideas and knowledge with other friendly folks. I began by researching "What is Hubpages"; I found a lot of answers and a very friendly community. My goal was to build links to my website, nothing more. The fact that Hubpages also allows you to make money was a bonus. It was free to sign up and I did so right away. I wrote a few articles to establish some links and soon after, I found out about Wordpress.

I visited Wordpress, signed up for a free account and started playing around. I found the interface with Wordpress to be much more advanced than and not as easy to use as Hubpages. I would consider Hubpages to be beginner friendly and WordPress to be Intermediate to advanced friendly. You must have some basic understanding of building websites in order to function within Wordpress.

I worked my way through the process on Wordpress and I started 4 blogs. I manage 4 websites and I started writing articles. One of the advantages on Wordpress is you can have many different blogs under one user name. If you are an SEO professional and you have many sites you manage, you can open one account; establish a separate blog for each of those sites that have a different look as if you’re building a separate website with many pages specifically for that client.

Examples of wordpress blogs (different styles, same account):

DENTISTINNEWPORTBEACH

OCNEWPORTJEWELERS

PREGOJEWELERS

OCNEWPORTMEDSPA

WHEN AND WHY I DECIDED TO COME BACK TO HUBPAGES:

My goal all along was to build links to my websites; Hubpages is limits to 2 links per article, whereas Wordpress does not have a limit within each post. You may place as many links within an article to the same URL as you see fit. I would share those articles on other sites in order to drive traffic to my blogs and after about 30 days, I found that I had no traffic coming into my blogs at all, no comments, no interest. Friends on Facebook and other media site friends thought they were great, but there was no energy involved within my articles.

With my first article on Hubpages, I received 2 comments one minute later. You see, I enjoy writing tremendously and it's nice to have your work read and recognized by someone. My goal in writing was to build links and although Wordpress allowed me unlimited links, if no one is reading my articles to click on those links, what's the point.

I decided to come back to Hubpages and begin writing again, I have kept my Wordpress account where I manage 4 separate blogs, within each blog, I write articles specific to the business owner of that particular blog. An RSS Feed on their home page provides fresh content as I update those blogs. On Hubpages, I have found my freedom, I write freely about various subjects, this allows me to link to the websites I manage, the blogs I write on Wordpress and although I’m limited to two links per article to the same URL, I have diversified where my content is, therefore I’m really able to link my material everywhere from one simple article on Hubpages. One of the main reasons I came back to Hubpages is for the audience that's extremely supportive, and my work is recognized and appreciated.

In having a first-hand experience with writing on both platforms, I keep both, but Hubpages is my main hub that drives to everything else. My advice would be to understand how each one can benefit your efforts and the purpose of you writing in the first place, you will be able to make your own decision on which platform serves your purpose best, Hubpages or Wordpress.

Do you think Hubpages should allow more than 2 links in each article to the same URL?
